Time tracking

Start a timer with one click or the space bar. It keeps running on all your devices until you stop it, even if you close the app.

How the timer works

Open an activity and press Start. 10k saves the start time right away, and pressing Stop saves the end time. The session then counts toward that activity's totals, graphs, streak and calendar.

The timer counts from the saved start time, not from the open page. It keeps running if you close the tab, lose your connection or pick up your phone, and every device shows the same running session.

One activity or several at once

By default one activity runs at a time: starting a different activity stops the running one at the same moment. The message that says so has an Adjust settings button.

Turn on Track several activities at once in Settings, under Account & preferences, to keep the others running when you start an activity. The bar under the header then shows every running timer with its own Stop, and Stop on a parent activity stops its running sub-activities too.

Each activity keeps all of its own time. Numbers that combine activities, such as a parent activity, your profile totals and your streak, count time that overlaps only once.

Controls on your dashboard

The timer lives in widgets, so you decide how big it is and what sits next to it.

  • Start / Stop the main button. It turns red and shows STOP while a session is running.
  • Space or Enter starts and stops the timer when you are not typing in a field.
  • Current session a Time Card that counts the running session and shows the last one after you stop.
  • Activity Status a small widget with a blinking dot while you track.

Forgot to start or stop

Add a missed session with Add Time, or open a session in the Calendar or on a Timeline to change when it started or ended. Manual time entries explains both.

Questions and answers

Does the timer keep running if I close 10k?

Yes. The timer is based on when you pressed Start, so it keeps counting until you press Stop on any of your devices.

Can I track two activities at once?

Yes. Turn on Track several activities at once in Settings, under Account & preferences. Starting an activity then keeps the others running, and time that overlaps counts once in combined totals.

Does tracking work offline?

Yes. Starting and stopping works without a connection, and the session syncs when you are back online.
